May 7, 2017: In Florida, a woman dials 911 and reports being raped by Uber driver Gary Kitchings.
This is an amazing case. When he is preparing for trial, his legal team discover this woman is the alleged victim in a pending rape case in New York. Reading between the lines, she is a prostitute and shakedown artist who preys on older men. Kitchings is some twenty years her senior. He had sex with her but claimed consent. Kitchings takes the stand in his own defense but the jury is not permitted to hear about her paid assignation, in a Manhattan hotel. He is convicted and given a 22 year sentence, but in February 2020, an appellate court reverses his conviction and a retrial is ordered.
In May 2024, he is cleared of one count of sexual battery and a mistrial is declared on four other counts. I could find nothing more on the case, but at the end of July, I found him on Facebook, so presumably the case was totally over.
If you read the appellate judgment carefully you will, I think, conclude that her tale is not quite credible. She claimed she screamed, but her neighbours heard nothing, although one of them had heard the car doors slam. Then there is the little matter of the bruising that never was.
It was also revealed in May 2024 that she had sued Uber and settled for $5 million.
All that being said, Kitchings was clearly ASKING FOR IT.
The other man this woman accused of rape was the Indian American tech executive Sanjay Tripathy. He met Little Miss Anonymous at an hotel in Times Square on June 15, 2016. Two years later, he was given a seven year sentence for assault and sexual assault (but not rape).
In court he apologised for the beating but insisted the sex was consensual and that she was trying to extract even more money from him.
