September 21, 2016: This one is a tad unusual. In New Zealand, an Indian woman, a post-graduate scholar no less, accuses her fiancé of raping her two days earlier, on September 19. Her initial report was to Rape Crisis.
Eleven days after her false allegation she tells the police she wants to withdraw it because she believes she was mentally unwell at the time. In reality, they had already cottoned on to her. You can read the rest of her victim narrative here in this anonymised judgment.
After this tribunal, the criminal case against her proceeds in Wellington District Court. This file contains two articles about the case. It should be noted that not only did she embellish her lies after withdrawing her false allegation but hers is not the only victim narrative herein: her former husband-to-be is given space for his own. And of course we hear the real victim is not him but future genuine rape victims who will be disbelieved.
The screengrab below finally identifies her as Esha Verma. And her pitiful punishment.
