Graeme Stening And Mrs Anonymous QC — the fumble of Waterloo

August 20, 2015: Graeme Stening and his willing partner are arrested at Waterloo Station.

This is not an allegation of rape, but it received enormous publicity, and is so outrageous it simply must be included here. Corporate lawyer Stening and the unnamed female QC were married, but not to each other. They were arrested at London’s Waterloo Station in the early evening, both the worse for drink, and she with her knickers round her ankles.

Charged with outraging public decency, she accepted a caution, but he declined. However, after considering the effect this admission could have on her career, this woman went back to the police and claimed she had been too drunk to consent. The purpose of this was clearly to keep her name out of the papers, even if it did label Stening a sexual predator. Thankfully, although she did succeed in maintaining her anonymity – in the mainstream media – the legal authorities did not buy her ploy. When he appeared in court the following June, Mr Stening accepted a caution.

As she admitted to being drunk, the police could have charged her with another offence; sadly they did not, nor does she appear to have been sanctioned by the Bar Council.
